Born in the wrong Century

Went to the library this afternoon after a grueling day listing many items on ebay for my mother and aunty. How will they ever learn? Tsk tsk. It's hard to turn them down when they offer me a share of the profits for my internet know-how. While at the library I was enticed into the non-fiction section in search of some antique books after recently acquiring some knick knacks from grandma. As you can imagine I got quite carried away with all the artsy crafty books, poetry and photography. Eventually I had to leave before my spine collapsed from being overloaded on one side.

I recently saw Bright Star, the story of a passionate and doomed romance between Fanny Brawn and poet John Keats. I have never really read much poetry but have been always interested in the verse (and more recently awakened to its powers at my birthday dinner.) I managed to get my hands on a copy of John Keats' letters to Fanny. I felt like I was intruding on something very intimate. The sentences were divine and to be loved like that, and have it expressed so exquisitely...whew! I think I was seriously misplaced in the 21st century. It would be a very rare occasion to receive such a letter in this day and age. A man so willing to unveil his feelings, hopes and dreams.

"...write the softest words and kiss them that I may at least touch my lips where yours have been. For myself I know not how to express my devotion to so fair a form: I want a brighter word than bright, a fairer word than fair. I almost wish we were butterflies and liv'd but three summer days- three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain."
