B&B

I've decided that I love bed and breakfast houses. We stayed at one in Bundaberg last Saturday night, getting there quite late. It was slightly out of town but the most amazing view to wake up to with the newly naked cane fields stretching out in ploughed rows. The neighboring farms still have full grown sugar cane rustling in the wind. The edge of the horizon is smudged with dust, a reminder of the dust storms that so successfully blanketed Brisbane and Sydney. This house is packed full- people in every room but it couldn't be more relaxed and friendly. It is a home with funky old chairs and extra fluffy towels and we get to share it.

They have the most magnificent poolroom I have ever seen, an enormous table and funky little bar with an ancient radio on a stand behind. The most prominent feature of this room was the carpet: it was orange and black swirls. It totally enhanced the room giving it this old cosy feeling. Of course the owners of the B&B had pets who freely roamed around the downstairs area. Firstly was the overly zealous Ellie, a dalmation who was very good at conning unsuspecting guests (myself included) into throwing a slobbery orange ball for her. Next resisdent was a black cat who has got to be the hugest cat I have yet set eyes on. Dee's first comment on seeing him was "Wow she must be pregnant!" to which the owners replied, "no, HE'S just fat!" Ah, good times!

So we arrived safe and sound in Brisbane on Sunday afternoon (at last!) thanks to Dee for driving that whole strip! By the time we got into the outer suburbs I was busting to go home, really impatient to just be home and sleeping in my own bed. Of course we had to do a detour to margate to drop off the trailer and relying on Dee's acute 'sense' of direction we eventually got to mum and dads. Sam and Candy were both there already and so was Sam's bandmate Alex. Full house but good to have everyone there together even just to hang out for a while.
