my very first...

It was a weekend of firsts for me! Friday night I went to my first ever book club. I realise this sounds incredibly dorky but it was actually very fun. The picture on the invite was this:

So of course I didn't glance at anything other than this and ended up reading Jurassic Park instead of The Andromeda Strain. Is that what jumps out at you too? I was glad to have started by familiarising myself with the author and even though I hadn't read the book felt that I could understand a lot of the conjectures as a result of reading another Micheal Crichton book. It was written in the 1960's and as a result there are some distinct differences in gender assumptions and just generally what is acceptable/normal in society. An interesting study. As soon as I finish all the Terry Pratchett's I have lying around, it'll be my next book to read. It was a fun night with everyone contributing food in the the theme of the book... there was blue lemonade, space chocolate (mars, milky way etc) and fizzy tablet lollies which were sorted into "complex carbohydrates" "protein" "caffeine" and so on.

Saturday night was my very first football game. I went to Ness and Scott's new unit (well not so new to them anyway...new to me) and had a fish fry up. Phil very kindly caught and cooked said fish to perfection. We also had this wicked salad which Ness made, it had sprouts, lettuce, orange, brie cheese, macadamia nuts and mung beans. AWESOME! Anyways so also met another friend of theirs, Simon; he's a pretty cool laid back guy. They have a sweet outlook, a park just below and perfect city views, I could really see myself living in that part of Brissy. We drove to the GABBA and then walked from Kangaroo Cliffs to our seats right behind the goals. I should mention at this point that we were at an AFL game (Aussie rules) which is definitely more interesting to watch, more fast moving and the players are much leaner. Rugby's all about the muscle and pass! pass! tackle! pass! tackle! pass! pass! pass! tackle! tackle! struggle! pass! CRUNCH! Get the picture? I took a few pics on my new blackberry so it's all I have for you, sorry.

Phil and Scott, while Geelong were still scoring...

Ness and I

Apparently after the game, it is a tradition to all run onto the field and kick your own footy around.

It was a great game overall especially because my home team, Brisbane Lions won. Final score was 108 to 65. This was particularly rewarding because Vanessa, Scott and Phil were all cheering for Geelong. How sad. You can believe I rubbed the salt in...

  1. Dangit Geelong! Haha it sounds so funny to hear the name of that town again, like it belongs to me but there it lays, doing its own thing while I don't live there. Anyways... you look good, thanks for the pics!
