A book, some sun and Sadie.

Today I woke. Late; as usual and as a matter of course. There was a note from dad on the back of my door asking me to help. He never asks so I did help. I went straight from deep sleep to Sadie the cleaning lady in an instant. With my hair tied back and bandana on, I certainly played the part. I vacuumed, mopped the hard floors, washed all the clothes and various mats, cleaned the table and kitchen, washed up, cleaned the windows inside and out and then fell in a heap.

It makes me think of the print with the woman flexing her muscles in a bandana. Lets see if I can find it...

Not the one I was looking for exactly but pretty close. This one is from a war poster by J Howard Miller. I had it in my mind that the particular image I was looking for was by Norman Rockwell. He did do a version of Rosie the Riveter which I particularly like:

She has a certain nonchalance about her which I admire. She's in a man's world but so what.

In some ways I can't wait to have a house so that I can buy prints and have a place to hang them on the wall. To frame something and have a place for it to go. That's probably why I feel like I'm stuck in the inbetween. Not moving forward, not stepping back. In a state of non. Or un. Depending on whether you have read 1984 or not. Becoming an un-person doing un-things. I hate to be so grammatically incorrect but there it is. Speaking of, I cannot stand NRMA insurances' new ad campaign. "unworry" I'm sorry but I cannot even contemplate trusting my car/ house/ life to someone who is willing to launch a national ad that is based around (in the spirit of things) a NON-WORD.

Onto better things, I have been reading, well to be quite honest I have been fastreading (the library's' new concept) Nick Earls' new book The True Story of Butterfish. Brilliant stuff. This book is a little more poignant but still retains the sharp freshness of ordinary observations. I'm still not finished but enjoying, as always, the intricate exploration of relationships between his characters. If you haven't read any of his books yet I highly recommend ZigZag Street. It's one of my favourite books where I found myself laughing out loud in public places.

Post Edit: Finished the book, a perfect ending. Finality without complete closure.
