Today I had a plan. Yesterday I made myself a promise to do something worthwhile. Most importantly, I made myself a list. It seems to be the only thing that forces me into doing something. Once it is written, it must be done. Oh, the power of the written word!
Anyways so the list dictated that I had a very full and crafty day ahead. So today I took the dust cover off the sewing machine and set to work adding some material to a dress that I recently bought to make it a little more modest. It's annoying when it's just that little bit too short and you try it on in the store and think to yourself..."I love it, I do but about that bit...well...I could fix it really quick with the sewing machine." After hours of meticulous fiddling to make it right you wonder...was it worth it?
I dragged out all the long-forgotten bags of material (which were, in my head, more numerous) and set to work pinning, sewing and a new one, overlocking. We inherited grandma's old overlocker when she died. I have never used one myself, mainly because ours conveniently broke down when I was about 10 and wanting to learn how to use it. This one was easy enough to figure out, if but a bit mangled over time. This is truly a magic machine. I made a skirt this arv and because of this new wonder did not hem! I did a crooked/slanty/ whatever the heck I like hem, just because. I also found an old curtain sample that mum has been hourding since the 70's and added it on...I love the bold pattern and the colours!
Here's mum with her new hairdo. I love it, think it really suits her face and am surprised that it looks so full as she has such fine hair and not much of it. Tomorrow's her first day of chemo so she's stocking up on reading, and asked me for the Twilight book to start her off!
Tomorrow I have many more delicious treats to make up. I'm going to make a doiley skirt, if what I have in my mind will actually work. It's great to spend your time on something with such tangible results!
Your dress looks great! I should sew something...
