Today really enforced the quote "It's not what you know, it's who you know." Of course it does help to know something. I applied last night online for a job as a picture framer in Brisbane. I had previously asked my old boss who is in the industry whether she had heard of them. Basically just scoping them out, seeing what materials they use, what standards their company upholds. Anyways I was concerned because I had never used a computerised mat cutter before. I had learnt how to do it manually which requires a lot more skill apparently. So Chery (my previous boss) put me onto this guy who could give me a tutorial on this particular CMC matcutter.
I went to see him, he gave the rundown, the software that runs the matcutter for me to practice on and a vast amount of tutorial information etc. He was super nice, taking the time out of his day to just coach me on this, of no benefit to him! I rang the place this arv and got an interview for tomorrow! They've filled the position but said that if the right person comes along, a position will be available! Jared, the very helpful guy who I pestered for information had rung ahead of me and recommended me to him! If I don't get this job, he offered for me to call or email anytime and he'll put out feelers with his sales reps. Got the finger on the pulse, that's for sure.
It all kind of snowballed but I can't be happier. I've something to occupy my brain, get it churning again. Guess you've just got to start things in motion. I've found that so often once you act, once you step forward on the faith that something will fall into place, it does. You know that cartoon where Wile Coyote runs off the edge of the cliff and his legs are still pumping round and round in circles even though there's no ground under him? That's the feeling. You're on your own and all around you in just space. It's only when Wile realises he's about to fall that he actually starts falling. Maybe we just need to keep on running. Not off a cliff. Please do not take this literally. It's when I put myself out for failure that everything falls into place when you least expect to. I've come to believe that there are no coincidences, only miracles. That way you give God the credit.
