too many flavours

I spray my perfume and the strong scent intermingles with the smell of my grapefruit body butter. I freshen my breath with some fruity gum and apply pina-colada lip gloss. No wonder we're all so screwed up...it's like a sensory overload. Everything is flavoured, coloured, sweetened and thickened. Our senses are so used to being assaulted by smells, tastes, sounds, sights in their most heightened form that we forget to appreciate the more subtle flavours. The smell of rain, the sound of leaves caressed by the wind, the feel of diving into a warm pool, the crackle of thunder, the intensity of a lightning bolt, the whirring of thousands of cicadas, the sight of a mountaintop dusted with snow, the softness of a cotton bud picked straight off the plant. It's time to notice the small things.
