I said I would do this once a week and it has now occured to me that it was a rather rash promise considering how often I've been posting lately. More strange and ordinary people for you...
A few of these are from a poetry night I usually go to once a month in this cosy little cafe. Today was a busy day, woke up from my intended sleep-in at 6.30am and turned this into a profitable hunt at the West End Club by attending the record fair. Freaking awesome stuff, this whole venue stuffed full of old, new and rare vinyls, it was mindblowing. Flicking through milk crates of sleeves and bartering down the price. I tried to find Jeff Buckley Grace for Sam but no such luck. Walked away with Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Queen, Pink Floyd and a bit of Chuck Berry. Very happy with myself! After much walking carting around a hefty bag containing all kinds of goodies (pillow, picnic rug and games) I arrived at South Bank and met up with some others for the long wait before River Fire. From about 1.30pm on we secured out spot on the riverbank for the fireworks show and played Phase 10, Uno, read magazines, papers, sunbaked, watched army & navy strutting their stuff, ate greasy food+ icecreams and just generally chilled out. It was a good crew to be hanging with for the afternoon before the masses of people poured into South Bank to pile up on the pathways and create a Time Square on New Years effect of our very own. Fireworks show was cool, some great effects but I found the F111s pretty lame compared to previous years. There must be some new safety laws because they didn't do the dump and burn right low where you feel the heat of the plane and the vibrations in the air as the sound hits you. Brisbane you light up pretty well.
