Last night Bonny and I attended Basement Birds first and final tour concert and I have to say: it was crazy good. Old Man River was supposed to be the opening act but we had a surprise opening act of The Sun Orchestra- three guys from Perth rocking it out with slide guitar, tamborines on ankles and various other instruments and sounds. Then out came Old Man River, cute lead singer with afro and very witty (and quick to shoot down the drunks who were yelling out) piano player. They were all very talented and The Sun Orchestra came out and jammed along with them. Rocking it out on stage and getting the crowd riled up. Oh and of course trying to make the birds jealous by their applause!
When the birds got on stage, it was magnificent, they were all joking around with each other, having good times mucking around. Banjos, double bass, Steve's tinny piano, slide guitar, drum brushes, harmonies and guest singers. Big congrats to Kav for his first joke of the tour and loving the bromance! Bring it on! The cover they did of The Presets " All of my People" was so much fun, I especially liked Josh's operetta voice and Freddie Mercuryish stance with the mic! Steve jokingly started a Grease tune and then everyone, crowd included joined in so it continued on, quite impressive. Great show all around, missing the basement birds collaboration already.
