There's something I've been thinking about, mainly because I know it's something I haven't done yet. There's a verse in I John 4 " Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." I really like that God wants us to try the spirits, to make sure that we are dealing with His Spirit. We must prove the spirit.
It says further on how to recognise the right Spirit: "Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."
I am so grateful that God wants us to prove for ourselves that the spirits are declaring Christ. There are many spirits in the world that are trying to take over lives, trying to influence those that are for Christ. If such a spirit has taken someone over the only way you will be able to tell if it is not of God is if the person cannot say 'Christ is come in the flesh"
I'm taking the advice from II Cor13:5 "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" In examining me, I need to examine God's effect in my life.
