growing pains

Ahh... dirt under the fingernails again. Somehow I got conned into working mum's garden today. I was not alone in the hard yakka. With pitchfork in hand and clumpy clay soil before me I set out to spread out the enormous mound that dad had dug up some weeks ago. Once I got into it I was quite glad for the hard work. Muscles working again, shoulders under the harsh sun. Once I had done a little of the main 'shifting' work, I selected my weapon of choice: yes, that's right...the maddox! You can swing it like an axe and I just feel like I am achieving that much more when it cuts through huge chunks of dirt.

Soon mum's longtime friend Janeice turned up with some tomato seedlings and basil to contribute. Her daughter, and my good friend, Annalise also came with her beautiful little baby Lachlan Cooper.

So all in all we planted corn, basil, boychoy, yellow squash, climbing beans, dwarf snapbeans and tomatoes. I'll take some pics when they all start sprouting up. I love it that we can plant all these in the middle of winter. Frost...what frost?
