cream brulee

Tonight I went out to dinner as a birthday thing with mum, dad, Bonny and Dan. I had heard lots of good reports of The Three Monkeys (at West End.) It was a fabulous place with little alcoves stuffed with pillows and tapestries and rugs hanging down the walls. The lights were hung fairly low which gave problem to Daniel and Bon, both being as tall as they are. The whole place just had a cosy feel about it. There were such a variety of people there too, some doing business over coffee, students with their laptops out studying and a couple playing chess on one of the small tables.

As you weave through this series of 'rooms' you come to an open area out the back where there is an assortment of tables and chairs on rough wooden flooring. Plants are everywhere and cloth sacks hang in frames on some of the walls. There were two young cats there, you know, just hanging out at the cafe. They would just wander between the guests, giving amusement and looking up you with large rounded eyes.

We then crossed the road to Freestyles dessert place where we were served by a Russian guy with an emo side fringe. I got cream brulee which was, in a word, sublime. It had icecream on one side with bits of toffee in it then the cream brulee which was topped with chocolate fairy floss ( which looked like white goats hair but was exquistie in taste) and to the right of that another scoop of icecream with the slightest chocolate fleck to it. Underneath this last item where a rich array of berries sitting in their juices. On the side of all this was a thin chocolate almond 'bread' which was very crispy. Is your mouth watering yet? My tastebuds were rewarded for putting up with zucchini...

A fabulous night indeed with plenty of laughs.
