Well there's no way that I am going to be able to concentrate on doing anything in my room. There's a party next door, a 21st party apparently "just family." I was in the bathroom (which is on that side of the house) and heard all the various sounds that accompany such a party. Kids screaming, bottles clinking (or smashing into the recycle bin) and what can only be assumed as grandpa hacking up flem from 1996, or the small children choking their pipsqueak dog.
Even in the office, I can hear the voices get louder as the people get drunker and the music get louder as the drink makes the people get deafer.
Not in any kind of life can I imagine how that would be a preferable way to spend an evening. When you're around friends, wouldn't you want to hear what they have to say, to watch how they interact together? Yet people choose instead, to impede their senses and clear their minds of all memory of the night. Maybe they don't have very good friends.
I started reading Pride and Prejudice again. Don't you judge me. I just love the language they use. Everyone was so polite, even when they were insulting one another. Their lives were so simple: do the chores, go to balls, select ribbon from town, visit each acquaintance for tea. Courting is especially enviable in it's simplicity. He's amiable, he's single, he's got good manners and a pleasing countenance, he earns enough to keep me. Go for a couple of walks and you're engaged. None of 'the list' crap. Anyone who's got a list of prerequisites needs to be shot. People in general need to open up their minds to more. In the past I have caught myself out being narrow minded and it was such a shock to me that now I have to ask myself to explore every option, every possibility. It's ok to have an opinion so long as you are able to listen to others' opinions with such a mind.
