Mum had the brilliant plan of seeing the jacaranda trees in full bloom at New Farm Park this weekend so off we went with picnic basket in hand. Sunday afternoon, as it turned out did not look so sunny, clouds threatened to cancel the expedition but we went anyway! Helen and Jeff (mum and dad's friends) came along and we settled under a leopard tree for a magnificent feast. Midway through, the clouds parted and it started to spit. We fooled ourselves for long enough that it was "just a bird flying over" until it actually stopped. I might mention at this point that I had to endure countless parent jokes where not even a sympathy laugh was appropriate!
Anyways I had a grand old time by myself wandering around with my camera observing people. It's lovely, right on the Brisbane river with these HUGE fig trees and amazing rose gardens, really relaxed atmosphere.
Most of the Jacarandas had finished flowering, they came early this year because it was so hot in August. I'm thinking the storms we had last week might have knocked all the flowers off early too. Only the grey skeletons were left behind.
